Best Jawa Mee in Penang!
Hi guys, I know it's been like over a month or so since i last wrote my first post and as you all probably would have guessed, I've been putting it off cause I've been procrastinating like hell. Since I'm now actually motivated to write something, let's cut the crap and start with my first food review in Penang. :)

So first of all this review is gonna be about Jawa Mee. In case you all don't know what Jawa Mee is, it's basically alkaline noodles stir-fried with eggs ,tofu, potatoes with a garnish of a prawn fritter of some kind OR the wet version which comes with the same ingredients but served in a thick tomato broth and minus the stir-fry. Personally i prefer the dry-version cause it tastes kinda like Mee Goreng which i love(The wet-version is also nice!) OK. so now with the intro done , let's get this review started!
If y'all are to lazy to read just scroll to the bottom for the TLDR.
The Jawa Mee stall is located at Kafe Hing Long, a hawker center right next to Gembira parade. This stall sells both wet and dry versions of Jawa Mee and it's located right next to the entrance. This hawker center isn't that big so you guys should have no trouble finding it.

Dry-Version Review
The first thing I noticed when I took my first bite was that the noodles don't have that pungent alkali taste that I'm pretty sure all of you who have eaten alkali noodles before know. Furthermore the eggs and tofu were really well paired with the noodles and they did not make me feel "jilat" at all,. But the main star of this dish is seriously the prawn fritters(See pic for reference), they were crunchy, not too oily and fried to perfection, the only downside of this dish it that there wasn't enough of those prawn fritters for me. :( (Probably cz I'm a greedy glutton) Also remember to squeeze the lime over the noodles for extra zest!
The prawn fritters i was talking about!
Wet-Version Review
Ok so for those people who aren't really a fan of stir-fried stuff, you should definitely try the Wet -Version of the Jawa Mee. First off, the broth of the Jawa Mee was pleasantly light and had only a slight sourly tomato sweetness unlike the broth you usually find in other places which I always find too thick and sweet. The other ingredients as I said are the basically the same minus the stir-fry with the exception of the eggs which are hard-boiled. But be sure not to leave the prawn fritters too long in the broth lest they get soggy!
TLDR:
Conclusion: Best Jawa Mee in Penang IMO! The noodles don't have that overpowering alkali taste and the broth is just perfect!

The jawa mee taste normal only. And the attitude from the boss is very bad. You may see him grab the noodle to the colander and he DEFINITELY have to pinch up back few piece of noodle and put it back. Not sure the few piece will cause him how much but this attitude as a seller is sucks! Will not support again.
ReplyDeleteHahaha you banned this because of the seller pinch few noodles back? Then you might as well cook your own food and don't eat outside cause most of the sellers might do and have done that. Such a stupid and pathetic comment!
